IMPORTANT REMINDER:

It really helps our OMSC team and our branding and standing in the Masters swimming universe to have each swimmer participate in relays — even if they would rather not — for a number of good reasons:

1) Relays are worth more team points to OMSC;
2) Other people on your team may be looking forward to swimming it, and will not be able to if you scratch;
3) Removing one person from a relay or even replacing yourself with someone of a different age can really make this thing unravel.

Everyone is fitted ‘just-so’ in this – it took me many hours to get it right – swaps are not easy.

So, download the relay schedule, and find your name and relay events you’re in.

The legend is as follows:-

RED = good potential for a BC record (Records are indicated with an “R”)
YELLOW = outside chance for a BC record
BLUE = alternates
PURPLE = fewer relays are entered than are listed in spreadsheet. One of the relays in the spreadsheet is not swimming – will decide day before. See inserted comments.
GREY = unavailable to swim that day
TAN = swimmer has events immediately before or after the relay.

NOTES:

1. every team relay event will score points for OMSC, even it it’s not a record-breaking achievement;

2. times are approximate. And, there is a good chance that alternates will need to be called upon at the last minute

Remember to circle August 17 and 18, 2012 on your calendar for the not-to-be-missed opportunity to take part in a spectacular 1.5km or (and) 5km Kelowna Apple Open Water Swim Invitational, hosted by Okanagan Masters Swim Club as part of the 2012 Pushor Mitchell Kelowna Apple Triathlon.

Location: Penticton Community Centre, 325 Power Street, Penticton, B.C. Telephone: 490-2426

Pool: 25 metres,10 lanes, Keifer lane ropes, no splash gutter, Colorado electronic timing, 10 lane display.

Time: Saturday: 2 – 2:45pm, tentative start time for warm ups, 3pm start. The start time will be confirmed in the week before the meet.

Meet Rules: MSC rules and warm-up procedures as well as Swim BC technical guide will be in effect.

Eligibility – this is a sanctioned event and will be open to all swimmers interested in participating (Masters registration is required). Canadian masters will need their 9 digit registration number. Out of country masters will need proof of masters swim affiliation.

Entries: will be accepted via Hytek meet file. Deadline for sending meet entries is Friday March 2, 2012. All entries must be accompanied by the swimmer’s masters registration number. If a swimmer does not have Hytek entries you can email entries to meet registrar. This will be a cardless meet. Maximum entry limit is 5 events, plus a relay. Email entries to Cathy Sheehan : Meet Registrar.

Fees: $20 flat rate per individual (limit 5 individual events, plus relay). Grid entries (non-Hytek), $25 flat rate.

Deck entries: Deck entries will be accepted at the discretion of the Meet Manager. Any request for a Deck entry must be accompanied by the approval of the swimmer’s coach and by the full fee, in CASH. $20 per entry.

Refunds: Swimmers who are required to scratch from the meet due to medical reasons may submit a medical certificate in order to receive a refund of meet fees. This applies only to MEET scratches, not to Event scratches. There are no refunds for Relay scratches.

Cut-off date for Meet Registrar to receive changes or scratches will be Monday, March 5, 2012. Meet Fees will be calculated as of this date.

Para Swimmers:  Para swimmers are welcome but must have a masters registration.

Deadline: All entries must be received by Friday, March 2, 2012

Seeding: Entries will be submitted as per event numbers. All events will be run by combining male/female swimmers and age groups. Results, will be separated by age groups and gender as shown in “Eligibility”. All events will be timed finals, seeded slowest to fastest. Please do your best to provide times, swimmers having no times will be placed in the slowest heats.

Scoring:
11, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 for individual events.
22, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 for relay events.

Awards:
Ribbons will be awarded for the 1st to 10th places in the individual events and 1st to 3rd places in the relays.

Scratches:
All scratches to be given to Clerk of Course thirty (30) minutes before the start of the meet, on forms provided.

Post-Meet Potluck – we will rent a room at the Community Centre for a potluck dinner after the meet.

2012 MSABC Provincials Swim Meet- register now…

Date: March 30 – April 1, 2012
Place: Saanich Commonwealth Place, Victoria, BC
Hosted by: Victoria Masters Swim Club and Island Swimming Association.

The final meet package for the MSABC Provincials has been posted in a .pdf version and a .doc version.  There are 3 ways to register:
1.  The preferred method is to use HyTek Team Manager Lite which can be downloaded for free.  The Meet Events can be imported here and the entries are emailed to the Provincials Meet Manager;
2.  If you don’t have, or can’t use HyTek, download the Provincials Excel spreadsheet, fill it out and email or mail it to the Provincials Meet Manager; or
3.  Fill out the paper form in the meet package, scan it and email it to the Provincials Meet Manager, or mail it to the meet manager.

Well done all the swimmers, coaches, officials and other volunteers.  We know that without you all. there would be nothing to celebrate!

Entry Fee: $30.00 per swimmer

Meet Entry Standards: There are no qualifying standards to enter the meet.

Eligibility: Open to any Canadian or International registered Masters swimmer 18 years old as of Jan. 29, 2012.

Entry Limit: Registration is limited to 100 swimmers. Each individual may enter 4 events plus relays. Meet management reserves the right to limit the number of heats and/or reschedule events.

Deadline for entries: January 15th, 2012

Following a welcome by Tony Hoft, Carmelle Guidi-Swan opened with a slide presentation to illustrate the many facets of Okanagan Masters, with strong emphasis on the ‘fun’ moments and more than a few entertaining images of its own members in action.  Danita Schreiber, Conny Stamhuis and Brent Hobbs shared their own experiences, specifically how swimming with Masters is such an integral element of what they do to stay young and healthy.  It was clear to see how the mantra ” to promote fun, fitness, health, fellowship and participation among adult swimmers” is so relevant to the club and all its members.

Club President Tony Hoft explained that a key objective of the Open House program is to remove the ‘intimidation factor’ that many people experience when considering joining a Masters program: to reinforce that Masters swimming is not an elitist sport, but is open to adult swimmers at any level, whether recreational or competitive.  Based on comments from guests, it certainly seems to have been successful … !

After the meet will be a social at a nearby pub. Please consider joining us in the new year.
